Solskjaer and Murtough agree over ‘ideal Romelu Lukaku replacement’
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland, with the forward one of the most in-demand players in world football.
The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the 20-year-old, who has netted 33 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and newly appointed football director John Murtough believe Haaland would be the perfect long-term replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku departed Old Trafford in 2019 and joined Inter Milan in a £74m deal.
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes a move to United would suit Haaland, telling Stadium Astro : "I don't think Haaland is a Manchester City player.
"I can't see him joining Man City and I'm not sure whether City will be interested in him. Pep [Guardiola] has got rid of some centre-forwards in the past.
"The way they play, they like to pass the ball around, I'm not sure whether Haaland would suit Man City or fit in there.
"At Manchester United, they have so many quick players and like to counter-attack, I think Haaland will suit United a lot better than City.
"Can United get him in the summer? I think there might be a situation in the summer if Dortmund miss out on the Champions League, where they might have to sell Haaland and [Jadon] Sancho. I think they could both go in the summer."

Haaland, however, has played down speculation linking him with a move away from Dortmund, saying: "I still have a three-year contract, I'm not concerned about that."
Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc recently said: "We will try to keep Erling Haaland as long as possible for sporting reasons. I have never seen someone like him. We can search Europe-wide. If he ever left us somewhere, there would only be a handful of clubs."
