Sol Campbell agrees with Wilshere that Arsenal can win title with right signings

Sol Campbell has boldly claimed that Arsenal can go on to win the Premier League title with the right signings.

The legendary defender was in agreement with fellow former Gunner Jack Wilshere, who said recently that the club “can win the league with a few big signings” in the next few years.

And Campbell, who won two league titles with Arsenal after leaving rivals Tottenham in 2001, believes Arteta is doing a great job in charge of the north Londoners.

The 47-year-old proclaimed that the Gunners can even win the league within the next two years despite finishing eighth in each of their last two seasons.

When asked on talkSPORT how far arsenal have come under Arteta, Campbell said: “In the next, say, two or three years. If they bring the right players in there’s a possibility, of course there is.

“If they get the right players in, why not? They’re going really well, Arteta’s got them firing.

“They have results as well. 5-0 against Norwich. I think if you want to show purpose you’ve got to beat teams like that at the bottom 5-0 and sweep them aside and carry on. Leeds away 4-1 as well.”

Arsenal will have to close the gap on the very best sides in the country if they are to fulfil Campbell’s prediction, including current title holders Manchester City.

The Gunners will face City at home on Saturday without their manager due to Arteta isolating with Covid-19.

But Campbell believes Arsenal are more than capable of getting a result despite suffering nine league defeats in a row to Pep Guardiola’s side, including a 5-0 drubbing at the beginning of the season.

Campbell said: “This is a great test for them. I think they can go all the way. Beginning of the season they lost 5-0 against Man City but the more time you play against the best players, you start adjusting to them.

“The young players can get the frequency of what they’re doing and get closer in the game. They might not win the game but get close in the game.

“Once you start doing that, who knows, you can nick a win or play really top, top football and beat them.”
