Sofyan Amrabat to Man Utd transfer twist as £30m move hinges on West Ham
Premier League season preview: Man Utd
Manchester United’s reported £30million move for Sofyan Amrabat reportedly relies on the Red Devils offloading at least one midfielder. Scott McTominay seems the likeliest star to leave, with West Ham supposedly in talks over a permanent switch.
It is claimed that while United’s interest in Amrabat is real, it has been slightly overstated by the Italian media. The defensive midfielder, who caught the eye during Morocco’s World Cup run, is reportedly ready to leave Fiorentina.
United have been strongly linked with the 26-year-old but there will need to be some movement at Old Trafford because a deal can be completed. Erik ten Hag has already spent nearly £180m this summer, far more than reports suggested United had available to spend.
Deals for Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund have amounted to £179.2m. Any more additions would rely on players departing for sizeable fees.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Amrabat’s arrival will only happen if a midfielder departs. Scotland international McTominay appears to be the closest to departing right now, with Premier League rivals West Ham apparently chasing a deal for him and United team-mate Harry Maguire.
An initial £60m offer from the Hammers for the duo was rejected earlier this week. However, a move for Maguire has since made significant progress with it widely claimed that a £30m agreement has been reached for the England defender to complete his switch.
West Ham could still thrash out a deal for McTominay. David Moyes is desperate to find a suitable replacement for Declan Rice, and McTominay has been identified as someone who fits the profile.
Reported cracks in relationships among West Ham’s hierarchy have made business difficult this summer. But West ham finally seem to be on their way to reinvesting the £105m they received from Arsenal for Rice.

Maguire and McTominay could depart United to the London Stadium, leaving Ten Hag free to continue spending on his own improvements. Fellow midfielder Fred has also been linked with an exit, with Fulham and Galatasaray supposedly interested.
Amrabat would complete a major overhaul of the United midfield under Ten Hag. Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Mason Mount have already been signed under the Dutchman.
That has left McTominay and Fred – who were the preferred pairing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – fighting for their futures. Departures for both would be viewed as a major success for Ten Hag, whose rebuild in a little over 12 months has seen seismic changes.
