Sofyan Amrabat to Liverpool confusion as Jorg Schmadtke’s wildcard flies in
Liverpool are looking to move on swiftly from their disastrous attempts to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. Time is of the essence for Jurgen Klopp’s side with Jorg Schmadtke needing to act fast to find a midfielder capable of filling the vacant role.
A host of midfielders have been linked with moves to Anfield already this summer and Klopp will want the position filled quickly. Ryan Gravenberch and Cheick Doucoure remain on the club’s shortlist, but Wataru Endo has emerged as a surprise target.
Express Sport takes a look at all the latest Liverpool transfer news with the transfer window drawing to a close.
Endo ‘flies in’
Liverpool appear to be closing in on a deal for 30-year-old Endo with eagle-eyed supporters spotting a private jet flying into Liverpool from Stuttgart on Wednesday evening. News broke earlier in the night that Liverpool were in advanced talks with Stuttgart for the signing of Endo.
The Japan international would add some much-needed experience to Klopp’s midfield unit with Thiago Alcantara the only other player above the age of 24. But Liverpool fans will likely want to see their club go after another blockbuster signing after missing out on Caicedo and Lavia.
Amrabat confusion
Dutch media had Liverpool fans in a tizz before the news about Endo broke when it was reported that Sofyan Amrabat was ‘finalising a move to Anfield’. Manchester United have been regarded as the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signing all summer long, but AD reported that Liverpool had hijacked the deal.

However, the report was knocked back by other publications insisting Liverpool had merely contacted Fiorentina regarding a move for Amrabat. It’s yet another misstep in Liverpool’s wild goose chase for a third midfield signing this summer.
Trio on shortlist
While Liverpool look set to sign Endo, it’s been suggested that Liverpool will still be in the market for another midfielder. They have the budget to go after a blockbuster signing and The Athletic claim their shortlist includes Ryan Gravenberch, Cheick Doucoure and Boubacar Kamara.
However, with just two weeks left of the transfer window, all three deals are said to be difficult to pull off. Bayern Munich, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa will not want to lose their star midfielders so late in the transfer window with little time to sign a replacement.
