Slaven Bilic 'is interested in taking charge of Burnley'

Former West Ham and West Brom manager Slaven Bilic ‘is interested in taking charge of Burnley’ following the surprise departure of Sean Dyche as he eyes return to the Premier League

  • Slaven Bilic has managed West Ham and West Brom in England previously
  • The Croatian’s last job was in China but left as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic
  • Burnley are currently in 18th, four points adrift of Everton and safety in 17th

Slaven Bilic, the former West Ham and West Brom manager, is interested in taking the Burnley job, it has been reported.

Burnley this morning sacked Sean Dyche after 10 years at the helm. The club are currently sat 18th in the Premier League, four points off Everton, who they recently beat, in 17th.

Dyche departs following Burnley’s 2-0 loss at Norwich on Sunday.

Slaven Bilic has had a mixed time in management in England with West Ham and West Brom

Now Bilic, whose most recent job was in charge of Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League, Talksport say is interested in taking on the job.

The Croatian has enjoyed a mixed time in management in England, overseeing an impressive season at West Ham in the club’s last year at the Boleyn Ground before being sacked in November 2017 following a run of poor results.

Likewise, Bilic enjoyed a mixed time with West Brom – leading the club to promotion in the 2019-20 season before being sacked in December 2020 following a poor start to the top flight campaign for his side.

Bilic left his job in China as a result of Covid and wanting to return to Europe to be closer to his family, something that the Burnley job can guarantee.

Beijing Guoan released a statement in January saying: ‘The club fully understands and supports Bilic’s desire to return to Europe to accompany his family under the pandemic.

‘We wish Bilic all the best in his future work, and wish him and his family health and safety.’

The Croatian’s last job in England was with West Brom – he was sacked in December 2020 after a string of poor results

The reports would suggest that following a short time away from management, Bilic is eager and ready to jump back in.

Burnley would prove a tough job, with the club fighting for their lives to stay up.

The Clarets’ run-in appears difficult on paper, with the side travelling to West Ham this weekend before hosting Southampton and Wolves in the same week.

They close out the month by going to fellow strugglers Watford in a game that could have a serious bearing on the battle to avoid the drop.
