Six options Man Utd could turn to if Harry Kane deal falls through this summer

Manchester United are hot favourites to sign Harry Kane if the England striker finally leaves Tottenham this summer.

In what is becoming an annual saga, Kane’s future is up in the air. While the 29-year-old has been is usual prolific self, Spurs have endured a particularly wretched season overall, missing out on European football completely after finishing eighth.

It is clear Kane is unhappy with the direction of travel at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it would be a major surprise if he signs a new contract with the club. Therefore, Spurs have a big decision to make – cash in this summer or let him run down his contract and leave for free in 12 months.

While Man United are reportedly at the top of Kane’s wish-list, a sale to a direct rival may not be sanctioned by chairman Daniel Levy, a notoriously tough negotiator, who is said to favour deal with Bayern Munich instead. While a transfer to Old Trafford cannot be guaranteed for Kane, we look at six other potential forward options for Erik ten Hag…

Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus)

The Sebrian has enjoyed another prolific season in Serie A, scoring 20 goals. However, he won’t be rewarded with Champions League football next season after the Italian giants were deducted 10 points for false accounting, dropping them to seventh.

That is sure to come with a significant financial hit and it has already been reported that Juve are open to cashing in on the 23-year-old this summer. With United securing Champions League football, Old Trafford would be an attractive destination.

Lautaro Martinez (Inter)

With Serie A’s reputation as the powerhouse league of European football long gone, even the country’s biggest clubs struggle to keep their top players.

World Cup winner Martinez has scored 30 goals this season and has been instrumental in Inter’s run to the Champions League final. Naturally, he has been linked with a move to the Premier League and a link-up with countryman Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea has been mooted. However, the lack of European football could county against the Blues, potentially opening the door for United.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

The Serie A marksman who looks most likely to end up in the Premier League, Osimhen blasted Napoli to just their third league title with a 30 goals. United and Chelsea have been linked with the Nigerian, who is reportedly set to be offered a fresh contract to stay in Naples.

Kylian Mbappe (PSG)

If the greatest striker on the planet decides to leave Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid would appear to be his most likely destination, but a move to Old Trafford cannot be discounted completely.

At the weekend, Mbappe dropped another hint he could leave this summer. When asked about his future, he gave a cryptic response, saying: "I'm calm. I'm very happy. I'm here. I'm making the most of it. I'm the best player. That's the most important thing. I have a contract. I have next year, I will be there, I'm very happy."

Neymar (PSG)

PSG would not be as reluctant to dispense with Neymer, who has been blighted by ankle injuries in recent seasons. The chances of the Brazilian superstar, now 31, joining United would appear to hinge on which party wins the battle to buy the club.

Qatari Sheikh Jassim, who is up against INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has reportedly identified Neymer as marque signing should he take control at Old Trafford.

Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid)

A different kind of player to Kane but an attractive proposition nonetheless. The young Brazilian has been a shining light for the La Liga giants but his future has been plunged into doubt due to the appalling racist abuse he has been subjected to in Spain, most recently in a game against Valencia. A host of Premier League clubs, including United, having already been linked.
