Sir Jim Ratcliffe has ‘urgent’ takeover issue as Erik ten Hag offers blunt reply

Man Utd considering five-man forwards list as rivals eye Sancho

Manchester United will take on Sheffield United tonight at Bramall Lane, and Erik ten Hag will be expecting his side to pile further misery onto his opponents – who remain without a win in the Premier League in their opening eight matches. The Red Devils will certainly be focused on the task at hand, though there has been plenty to be distracted by at Old Trafford throughout the international break.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is closing in on purchasing a 25 per cent share in United, and the INEOS owner is hopeful of conducting a major reshuffle upon his arrival. The 71-year-old has beaten competition from Qatari royal Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani to push the Glazer family to negotiate – and he looks set to be rewarded for his efforts soon.

Ratcliffe is said to be keen to oversee the footballing side of United when he is appointed, with a new sporting director expected to arrive to try and reshape recruitment. New arrivals Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat are yet to meet the mark at the Theatre of Dreams, with previous signings – such as Casemiro – also being questioned by Ratcliffe.

The United squad will be hoping to prove those doubters wrong against the Blades tonight, and Express Sport will keep you up to date with all the latest news surrounding the club as we approach kick-off…
