Sir Alex Ferguson’s view on Tottenham chief Levy as Man Utd ‘monitor Harry Kane’
Sir Alex Ferguson's view on Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has re-emerged as Manchester United reportedly monitor Harry Kane.
Levy's known to be a tough negotiator, and Ferguson got to experience just how difficult business with the Spurs chief could be when United brought Dimitar Berbatov in 2008. The £30.75million transfer, a club record at the time, didn't end up getting completed until transfer deadline day with Levy calling the shots.
And the negotiations with Levy left such a bitter taste in Fergie's mouth, it would be the last time United brought a player from Spurs, even opting out of the opportunity to sign Luka Modric before he joined Real Madrid to avoid talks with the Spurs chairman. Fergie pulled no punches when speaking on his harrowing negotiations with Levy, saying via Manchester Evening News: "(It was) more painful than my hip replacement."

Now the Red Devils face another difficult negotiation period with Levy as Erik ten Hag wants Kane to lead his attack next season. Burnley ace Wout Weghorst has moved to Old Trafford on loan until the season ends, and Kane is being tipped for the position long-term.
Man United's neighbour's Manchester City found out how resolute Levy can be when they tried to buy Kane last summer. Levy refused to budge on his asking price of £150m, resulting in Kane remaining at White Hart Lane.

However, United may be in luck this time as Kane enters the last 12 months of his contract this summer, and Levy will want to cash in on the England captain while he still can – if he doesn't sign a new deal.
But if Levy refuses to budge, United will reportedly turn to either Napoli ace Victor Osimhen, or Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.
Osimhen was also on Arsenal's wishlist earlier this season. But the Prem sides will have to fork out £88m to convince Napoli to let the striker go.
