Sir Alex Ferguson’s sporadic appearances at Manchester United training sessions are still providing their first-team stars with ‘surreal’ moments to this day.
The legendary Scot won 13 Premier League titles with the Red Devils before his retirement in 2013, and is currently on board at the club as a director.
The 79-year-old, who tipped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to go into management following the Norwegian’s retirement in 2007, is still a welcome guest of his former super-sub striker.
Fred, who has grown in importance to the side since Solskjaer took over at Old Trafford, has now revealed how he has reacted to being in the company of Ferguson in recent seasons.
"He has a great history here," Fred told O Clube of Sir Alex.
"I used to hear about him and I knew his story but after being here and realising how much people idolise him, for the time he stayed, the title he won and the person he is.
"Once in a while, he comes to watch our practice sessions here, it is important to be near him. He is one of the greatest football coaches in history.
"Being close to him is important and it's kind of surreal. I'm very happy that he can be close, he comes to watch our games most of the time, so this is very important to me.
"He is applauded by not only United fans but everyone in England and not only England, worldwide.
“Everything he lived in football, everything he revolutionised in English football is impressive.
"I think he deserves all of this and we just thank him for doing it for us. After the game against PSG, that we won 1-3, we had lost at home, he went to the locker room and I said: 'Omg, he's here!' I went to greet him, shaking his hand."
After accepting the caretaker role back in 2018, Solskjaer said of his former boss: ”He’s been my mentor. From my injury in 2003 at least, I was making all the notes, what he did in different, certain situations.

“Of course I've already been in touch with him, because there's no one better to get some advice from.”
Before adding: “If you play at Man United, you play without fear and you play with courage.
“You go out there and express your skills. I've had the best [manager]. He [Sir Alex] just said 'go out and express yourselves, take risks’.”
