Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has warned Tottenham boss Antonio Conte that he must manage expectations at the Premier League club. Spurs were left embarrassed on Thursday night after being defeated by Slovenian side NS Mura.
Conte blasted his side in the aftermath of that defeat, which has left Tottenham at serious risk of crashing out of the Europa Conference League at the group stage.
The Italian had named what appeared to be a strong starting line-up for the clash, with Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli all selected.
But Spurs went on to produce an abysmal performance at the Fazanerija City Stadium, with Mura securing their first win in the group.
That leaves Conte’s men second in Group G heading into the final game before the knockout stages, but must beat Rennes in two weeks to keep their fate in their own hands.
Considering how Conte has previously dealt with underperforming squads at his previous clubs, his latest comments are no surprise.

But Jordan insisted that the squad the Italian selected to face Mura was more than good enough to claim the win.
And he also warned Spurs chief Daniel Levy that he should expect more of these blasts from Conte as his reign progresses.
“If you’re Daniel Levy, you would know what you’ve signed as a manager. If you didn’t then you shouldn’t have taken him on board,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“Because I don’t assume Antonio Conte was a shrinking violet in the negotiations about what he wanted from Tottenham.

“From how much he gets paid, who he brings with him to what he expects the support mechanism to look like.
“Whatever you say about not being a magician, please don’t tell me that squad isn’t good enough to beat that side yesterday.”
While Jordan defended Conte for slamming his side, he also warned the Spurs boss that he must temper expectations, having arrived with a reputation of being a serial title winner.
“He can’t say anything can he? What can he say? That performance yesterday was turgid and poor and at its worst against rank amateur opposition,” Jordan added.
“But it’s not something that Tottenham haven’t thrown out before. I understand it because he has to protect himself, he will be being brought forward as the cure for all ails.
“He wants to manage that expectation, because if he doesn’t manage that expectation, he’s going to be in the firing line quicker than a quick thing from quickland.
“Because people are going to say ‘hold on, you’re supposed to fix things.
“Tottenham’s squad is good enough to overcome the opposition they played yesterday so everybody’s in the mix for that performance yesterday, including the manager.”
