Sheffield United have issued a statement following allegations star striker Oli McBurnie was involved in a street altercation.

A video has gone viral on Twitter, and it is alleged one of the people involved in the incident is the Blades forward.

United announced on Monday that they have launched an investigation, saying they are aware of the footage.

In a statement, the club said: "Officials at Sheffield United are aware of the video circulating on social media and are currently investigating."

McBurnie has made 26 appearances this term but has been on the sidelines since picking up a foot injury in a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in April.

He arrived at Bramall Lane in August 2019 in what was then a record fee for the Blades, believed to be in the region of £20million.

The 24-year-old scored six goals in his first season at Bramall Lane as Chris Wilder’s side recorded an impressive ninth-place finish.

This season has been much tougher for McBurnie and United, with the Welshman hitting one goal in a campaign that will end in relegation.

McBurnie has also won 16 caps for Scotland and was involved in their successful Euro 2020 qualifying campaign via the Nations League.
