Seven Man Utd stars who may get chance now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United departure could open the door for a number of players to make their mark.
As with every managerial change, a new boss can provide a fresh start for a lot of individuals, especially those who may have previously been out of favour.
The Norwegian’s dismissal felt like a long time coming, with a series of damaging results this season.
Since his appointment, Solskjaer has spent more money in the transfer market than any other Premier League manager, with some signings working out, while others haven’t.
The acquisitions have been baffling at times, with some players being given limited roles, despite big money being spent.
Daily Star Sport takes a look at seven players who could now be given a second chance under a new boss.
Donny van de Beek
It is quite ironic that Donny van de Beek scored the final goal of the Solskjaer reign.
The midfielder has struggled for game time since making the move to Old Trafford, with many fans calling for him to be given more of a chance in the starting 11.
At Ajax, the 24-year-old looked like an exciting prospect, prompting United to spend £30million on him.
For whatever reason, Solksjaer just hasn’t fancied him, often preferring the McFred partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred.
In two seasons, he’s only managed 22 Premier League games, with only three coming this campaign.
With potential still there, a new boss could ignite it.

Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho appeared to be heading towards a similar situation as van de Beek under Solskjaer.
The club splashed big money on him during the summer, after his impressive spell in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, but so far, he’s not been handed the opportunities to replicate his form.
The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo has not made things any easier for the 21-year-old, with competition tough for a starting spot, even with United’s struggles.
A new coach is exactly what Sancho needs to get himself back on track.
He’s certainly one of England’s most talented youngsters, and with a clean slate, there is no reason why he can’t be a success at Old Trafford.
Jesse Lingard
Rumours have been circulating that Jesse Lingard wants out of Manchester United and will depart in the summer at the end of his contract.
The 28-year-old had appeared to have resurrected his career while on loan with West Ham in the second half of last season but hasn’t really been given the platform to build on that.
When he has been called upon this campaign, he has delivered.
In six Premier League games, he has scored twice, including a crucial one against the Hammers at the London Stadium.
With Solskjaer exiting, Lingard’s United career may not yet be over if he is deemed part of any new long-term plans.

Juan Mata
Juan Mata has become a forgotten man at Old Trafford.
The Spanish midfielder was one of the best at the peak of his powers.
He was sensational for a time at Chelsea and has also had his moments with United.
Under Solskjaer his game time has become more and more limited. He’s failed to register a league appearance so far this season in the league.
While at the age of 33 he will never be the first name on the team sheet again, could he have one final role to play under a new boss.
Dean Henderson
Dean Henderson must be regretting some of his decisions over the last few seasons.
After an impressive loan spell with Sheffield United, he opted to stay at Old Trafford to fight for the number one spot.
At one stage this looked to be the correct call, as he edged ahead of David De Gea.
However, due to injury and a resurgence in the form of the Spanish keeper, Henderson has slipped well behind.
He will need to make an instant good impression on whoever takes over the role, to prove he is a long-term option worth investing in.
Alex Telles
Following Solskjaer’s exit Alex Telles will hope he can make a serious push to be number one left back.
Even with the questionable form of Luke Shaw since Euro 2020, the Norwegian remained with the England international over the Brazilian.
Since making the move to Manchester from Porto last year, the 28-year-old has only managed ten Premier League appearances, with only one this season.
If a fresh pair of eyes is to come in, then Telles could be given more of a chance in the United starting line-up, especially if the performances of Shaw don’t pick up.
Diogo Dalot
In the other full back position, Diogo Dalot may be hoping he may stand a better chance of challenging Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The talented Portuguese right-sided player is deemed by many to be an exciting prospect.
Since joining the club, he has made 22 Premier League appearances, and will be hopeful of adding more.
He spent last season with AC Milan on loan, where he was given a fair share of first team football.
