Serie A clubs on their KNEES with players attracted to moves abroad

Serie A clubs are on their KNEES with top players and coaches in Italy attracted to moves abroad this summer after devastating impact of financial crisis caused by Covid

  • Steven Zhang asked Inter Milan players and staff to give up two months’ wages
  • As it stands none of the Inter players or staff members have accepted the pay cut
  • Serie A clubs want Italy’s Players’ Association to lead ]conversation with teams
  • The decision could force stars to leave for Spain, England or France this summer

Serie A clubs are reportedly ready to follow Inter Milan’s lead and discuss a two-month pay cut with the Players’ Association.

Inter president Steven Zhang asked players and staff to give up two months’ wages to help the club’s owners through a financially difficult period.

As it stands, none of the Inter players or staff members have accepted the pay cut but it hasn’t stopped the Nerazzurri from inspiring other Serie A sides.

Serie A clubs have lost the financial proceeds of stadium tickets and season tickets during the pandemic.

This has destroyed the great financial gains of recent years and slowing down the construction and modernisation projects of the new stadiums in Italy.

As it stands, Napoli are the only high-level team with no economic issues thanks to the prudent management of the finances of President De Laurentiis.

However, the financial ruin at other clubs could force stars such as Paolo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez and Franck Kessie to move to France, Spain or England to retain their salaries.

With Serie A clubs on their knees, the FIGC and the government have been tasked with finding a solution to prevent the downfall of football in Italy.

According to Tuttosport, there was a unanimous vote in Friday’s Lega Serie A meeting to take steps towards lowering the cost of wages.

The first step will see the FIGC postpone the payments of salaries and taxes for the last four months of this season until December 31, 2021.

This would prevent clubs from filing for bankruptcy or failing to register for the 2021-2022 Serie A season.

The second step to reduce the financial burden on clubs is to ask the Players’ Association to begin negotiations with all Serie A clubs over a two-month salary cut.

According to reports, they believe it would be more beneficial if the AIC led the conversation rather than the clubs negotiating with the players directly.

Inter are eager to get the salary cuts over the line as they could be hit with UEFA sanctions over their involvement in the failed European the Super League.

They could also suffer financially from the possibility of missing out on Champions League qualification.
