Serie A club ‘sent pig’s head with message saying the next heads will be yours’

Sampdoria fans have reportedly sent a clear and frightening message to the people in charge of the club after struggling in Serie A.

The historic side currently sit second from bottom and look destined to be relegated as it stands, with fans allegedly now sending a pig's head and death threats to the owner of the club, Massimo Ferrero.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, a pig's head and an accompanying letter were sent to the club's headquarters addressed to Ferrero and board member Antonio Romei. The message is believed to have said: "The next head will be yours."

Police are now investigating the incident, as well as DIGOS, an anti-terrorism unit. The report also claims that a bomb squad arrived at the scene to open the mysterious package.

Sampdoria have since released a statement following continued tension between the hierarchy of the club and the fans. It said: "Sampdoria express profound disgust and indignation when faced with the latest serious act of intimidation that occurred this morning outside the club headquarters in piazza Borgo Pila.

"The club underlines that any attack on a member of the board of directors represents an attack on all its components, their work and the abnegation with which they have approached this important role.

"Since the start, the board of directors has operated with cohesion, unity and independence with the only aim of ensuring the continuation of Sampdoria as a club and sporting entity, awaiting the transition to new owners. In this direction, the work of vice-president Antonio Romei has been fundamental and the board of directors hopes to continue sharing with him this delicate phase in the life of the club."

The pig's head is the latest turn in what has been an eventful season for the club to say the least. Just last month a blank bullet was sent to the club's HQ along with a letter that said: "This time it is blank, the next time it will be real."

Ferrero has even claimed that he has received four bullets in the last three years as he tries his best to cash in on the club. Fans have also released a statement outlining their fury.

It said: "It doesn't work like this. We have the clear feeling that you are trying to unload the barrel. Do you really think you can get away with this? Blaming Ferrero and the board of directors?

"You, the Garrone-Mondini family, are the first guilty of this havoc. Ferrero? You were the ones who welcomed him with great pomp by handing him the keys to the company. If Sampdoria disappear, you, the Garrone-Mondini family, will be primarily responsible."
