Sergio Ramos reveals his take on Kylian Mbappe PSG speculation
Sergio Ramos insists Kylian Mbappe is very happy at Paris Saint-Germain and hopes that the striker will be at the club for years to come, despite the latest rumours suggesting he wants to leave.
Mbappe signed a new three-year deal with PSG over the summer, seemingly ending the constant speculation linking him with a switch to Real Madrid.
However, reports have emerged that the 23-year-old feels ‘betrayed’ by PSG as he feels that promises made over his new contract have been broken, and he wants to leave as a result.
The Frenchman is reportedly unhappy that he has been played as a lone striker, his relationship with Neymar is poor and he wanted the Brazilian to leave, while he also insisted on the club buying a new centre-back, which also hasn’t happened.
Ramos disputes the claims that this teammate is not happy, though, and has dismissed the reports as rumours.
‘The only thing I can tell you is that I am friends with Kylian, he is very happy here,’ the Spaniard told Canal+. ‘I don’t believe in rumours, we are focused on our work, we don’t read the newspapers.’
He added when speaking to ESPN: ‘The news around us even surprises us sometimes. I hope he will be here for many years.’
Mbappe started PSG’s game against Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night and scored from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw.
Ramos was disappointed with his team’s mindset but they remain top of their group, where he hopes they can remain with two games to play.
‘We lacked a bit of determination,’ he said. ‘It’s the little details that make the difference. Physically, they’re a very strong team, who worked well tactically and we couldn’t find any. The Champions League is a complicated competition.
‘The objective is to finish first in the group, there are two games left and we must continue to work to show the best face of the team.’
Football advisor at PSG, Luis Campos, denied that Mbappe wanted to leave, saying earlier on Tuesday: ‘I am here to deny. Kylian Mbappe did not inform anyone to leave Paris Saint-Germain. We never talked about that.
‘I have a three-year contract for PSG, I work every day for the club to do something extraordinary. We speak with him every day, as with the others. All players chat with us. I spoke about recruitment a month ago, we work every day to have an exceptional season. We are very happy to work here.’
