Sergio Ramos’ brother Rene has explained the defender’s situation amid speculation over his future at Paris Saint-Germain. Ramos joined PSG on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer, but is yet to feature for his new side, leading to rumours that the club could cancel his contract.
The 35-year-old centre-back joined Mauricio Pochettino’s side as part of an eye-catching summer recruitment drive.
Ramos was one of four high-profile players to join PSG after their contracts expired elsewhere, alongside Gianluigi Donnarumma, Gini Wijnaldum and Lionel Messi.
But while all the others – and fellow signing Achraf Hakimi – have bedded into the team, Ramos is yet to play a single minute for the Ligue 1 side.
The Spanish international has been sidelined with a calf problem and has played just five matches this calendar year due to fitness issues.
Le Parisien claimed this week that PSG were open to cancelling the two-year contract Ramos signed upon his arrival in Paris, even though it would cost them £20m (€24m).

However, Rene Ramos, who is his brother’s agent, has rubbished those rumours, claiming he will make his debut once he has overcome his calf injury.
“Sergio Ramos is not planning to retire or break his contract,” he told El Mundo.
“There is no doubt about Sergio. It’s a physical problem, he will play when he can.”
Ramos has endured a difficult year, with his fitness problems contributing to his exit after 16 years at Real Madrid.

Real did not offer the veteran defender a new contract, while Luis Enrique left him out of his Spain squad for Euro 2020.
PSG don’t seem to be missing him, however, with Pochettino’s side already 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 after winning 11 of their 13 games.
The club’s sporting director, Leonardo, has blamed foreign media for stirring up rumours around Ramos.
“We know Ramos has had an injury,” he said after PSG’s 2-1 win over Lille on October 29.
“The Spanish press are playing games, we all knew he had a problem. We know what’s happening here.”
PSG confirmed this week that Ramos is scheduled to resume training next week.
If he is able to do so without any issues then he could make his long-awaited debut against Nantes immediately after the international break on November 20.
PSG beat Bordeaux 3-2 on Saturday, with Neymar netting twice in the first half and Kylian Mbappe scoring the decisive third goal.
Pochettino fielded full-back Timo Kehrer alongside Marquinhos in central defence, with Presnel Kimpembe absent.
