Sergio Ramos already repaying his Sevilla ‘debt’ after 18 years away from club
Sergio Ramos has instantly resumed his leadership role at boyhood club Sevilla following 18 years of winning major honours elsewhere.
The 37-year-old left the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan at the age of 19 back in 2005 before winning five LaLiga titles with Real Madrid as well as claiming four Champions League winners' medals. His return to Sevilla on a free agent comes after two seasons at PSG – which brought two further league titles.
Ramos made his second debut for the club in their first win of the season against Las Palmas before a draw in their Champions League opener against Lens in midweek. Despite having a lack of first-team football during his second season in France, Ramos has already assumed the role he first delighted fans in at the age of just 17.

Manager Jose Luis Mendilibar said: "He is a leader, of course, and everywhere in clubs and in the national team. He was already a leader at 17 years old at Sevilla.
"You are born a leader and Sergio is going to die being that. He can help us on the pitch and on the bench too."

The World Cup and twice European Championship winning central defender with Spain, who was born in Camas, Seville, has lost none of the passion that made him the darling of fans before his Bernabeu switch.
Ramos himself knows how important the club was to his development, which started his path to being one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game – with 180 international caps.

Ramos had said: “I’m looking forward to going home, it didn’t make sense to go anywhere else without going through here.
"It was a debt with my father, with my grandfather, with Sevilla and with Puerta, with many things that have meant a lot and I think it was the moment.”
