Sergio Aguero has fired back after receiving criticism on Twitter following footage from a live stream where he appeared to call Eduardo Camavinga a ‘d***face’. The 34-year-old took on a prominent role in Argentina’s World Cup celebrations despite retiring from football in 2021 but has insisted his comment on the French midfielder was simply a joke.
Aguero is widely considered to be an Argentine legend having won 101 caps, and scoring 41 goals between making his debut in 2006 and his retirement in 2021 from a heart issue. He has helped his country to win multiple honours after being part of the gold medal-winning Olympic team in 2008 and part of the triumphant 2021 Copa America squad.
Despite being unable to take part in the tournament in Qatar, he still played a big part in Argentina’s celebrations after lifting the World Cup. The Manchester City legend flew out to the Middle East to room with close friend Lionel Messi in the run-up to the final and took up an informal role in the South American’s training sessions, partying alongside his former teammates after the penalty shootout win.
Aguero live streamed some of Argentina’s post-match celebrations in the changing room and appeared to label Camavinga a ‘d*** face’ leading to criticism online. Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon called him out for his comments writing on Twitter: “Very bad class of @aguerosergiokun. Camavinga did nothing to him.”
However, Aguero responded directly suggesting it was nothing more than a joke and the journalist should not look for problems. He wrote: “Let’s see, first I have nothing with him and Second it’s a party joke. Also if you search on stream he always joked with his name. Don’t look for problems.”
Aguero’s appearance in the World Cup final celebrations raised eyebrows for other reasons with some comparing him to John Terry for turning in his Argentina top. The former Chelsea captain infamously took to the pitch in full kit after the Blues beat Bayern Munich in the final despite playing no part in the match following a needless red card in the semi-final against Barcelona.

Terry ripped himself as he reacted to the Argentine’s actions, posting a picture of him on Twitter, coupled with the caption: “If your going to do it, at least go for it and put the shin pads and boots on.” He also referenced his previous actions during his media duties for BeIN Sports stating: “Aguero has gone for the full John Terry there hasn’t he?! I did it first.”
