Sergio Aguero breaks Premier League record with brace on Man City farewell
Sergio Aguero netted his 184th and final Premier League goal for Manchester City in their 5-0 win over Everton on Sunday – breaking an English top-flight record in the process.
The Argentina striker is leaving City upon the expiry of his contract next month, waving goodbye to the club after 10 iconic years.
He got on the scoresheet twice in his final Premier League outing at home to Everton, coming off the bench and bagging City's last two goals in a resounding victory to end their title-winning campaign on a high.
The brace has taken his Premier League tally to a staggering 184 goals in 275 games, which is a new record for the most scored for a single club.
And to make it even sweeter for City fans, Aguero has overtaken Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney in the all-time goalscoring charts for one club.
The 32-year-old is already set to depart the Etihad on a high after getting his hands on a fifth Premier League title in his farewell season.
Nevertheless, he will hope to complete the fairytale goodbye by going one step further and clinching a first Champions League crown in next weekend's pivotal final against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Aguero before their final Premier League outing of the season, insisting he deserves a special send-off at the Etihad.
"Being the legend that he is, coming to this country where it is so difficult to score goals and doing what he has done for so many years is incredible," Guardiola said.
"The quality of the player shows in his numbers, his performance and titles – his performances when he was fit are incredible.
"I can't imagine how many more he would have scored if he was fitter at some points in previous seasons.
"When he's fit and has continuity, in five metres he can – like a lion in the jungle – make a step to kill the opponents.
