Senegal continue their bid to win their first AFCON trophy as they face Cape Verde in the first round of the knockout stages.
Aliou Cisse’s men have flattered to deceive so far this tournament – scoring just one goal in their three group games – but still managed to emerge as Group B winners.
They now face one of the sides that qualified as a best third-placed side in Cape Verde, who have lost just one game in their last seven in all competitions.

One of the four best third-placed sides that made it through to the knockouts, Cape Verde certainly showed their credentials in Group A.
Julio Tavares’ 45th-minute goal saw off Ethiopia, and a draw against hosts and now quarter-finalists Cameroon came either side of a narrow 1-0 defeat by Burkina Faso.
Bubista’s men therefore took four points from three games but will now be looking for a giant killing. They have scored just one more goal than Senegal though, and their only previous experience in AFCON knockouts came in 2013, when they lost to Ghana.
I don’t think it is unfair to say Senegal have yet to come to life at AFCON this year. They needed a dubious 97th-minute penalty from Sadio Mane to beat Zimbabwe.
Goalless stalemates against Guinea and Malawi have followed, and while attacking vigour has not be their forte, despite the presence of Sadio Mane, defensive solidity has.
They are the only side in the tournament that have yet to concede and will be keen to keep that going, especially with Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy having returned against Malawi.
