Scott Parker sparks Liverpool row over "minimal" Harvey Elliott transfer fee
Furious Fulham boss Scott Parker has branded it “madness” that Liverpool will get away with paying no more than £4.3m for Harvey Elliott.
The Reds initially offered just £750,000 for the midfielder when they poached him from Craven Cottage in July 2019.
And Fulham declared themselves “very pleased” when a tribunal this week awarded them record compensation for a 16-year-old and a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
But Elliott, who is now on loan at Blackburn, would have to play 100 times for Liverpool and be capped by England for the full fee to become due.
And Parker said: “I was disappointed in it all because this is a player that had been developed at this club for a long, long time.
“We gave him his debut. You don’t want to go and spend £20-30m on players. That’s why the Academy is so important for us.
“We want to develop these players. But we have developed that player for a big club to take him.
“Four million quid for a player we developed and thought the world of, to then leave like he did, is madness really.
“Harvey Elliott has the potential to be a top-class football player but Liverpool have taken him off us for minimal numbers for what he’s capable of.”
Parker also slammed Fulham co-owner Tony Khan for revealing details of the club’s failed bid this week for Ivan Toney, who joined Brentford instead last summer.
Cottagers boss Parker, whose side face Everton on Sunday, also criticised Khan back in September for apologising to fans on Twitter for a thrashing by Aston Villa.
And he spoke out again last night, saying: “I’ve not spoken to Tony. It is something I don’t feel needs to happen.
“I want this to be an elite football club and an elite organisation. I can’t control what comes from the outside. At times it’s not helpful. Of course, it isn’t.
“I want people to perceive us as a club that is world class in everything we do. That’s where I stand on it. At times, it’s frustrating.”

Khan tweeted twice on Wednesday to explain that Fulham could not afford Toney, who joined the Bees from Peterborough for a fee worth up to £10m.
Taking the credit for targeting the player, he wrote: “I did like him a lot, I still do, and I was the one who brought him up in the meetings (the General Manager, not the manager).”
And in a follow-up tweet to Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony, he wrote: “He’s a great player with a great data profile. We hoped to do a deal with your Club, I loved him + his data, I badly wanted him but trying to balance FFP with unknown constraints due to COVID, we didn’t have flexibility to pay the fee without depleting funds to invest in defence.”
