Scott Carson has hit back at a fan who claimed he had done nothing to earn his two Champions League winning medals.
The veteran goalie made his own piece of history as Manchester City beat Inter Milan to win their first-ever European Cup, as he matched Paulo Maldini’s record of having the longest gap between Champions League wins.
Carson was an unused sub when Liverpool famously beat AC Milan to win the competition in 2005, and 18 years later was on the bench as Man City completed the treble with their win in Istanbul.
Following the victory and Carson’s achievement, one fans took to Twitter to accuse the goalie of not deserving his medals because he failed to play a game in either run.
Stating: ‘Scott Carson. Twice champions league winner without playing a minute’, alongside a round of applause emoji.

However, Carson hit back the comment and gladly reminded the fan of his appearance in Liverpool’s quarter-final match along the way to their fifth European Cup win.
He said: ’90 minutes quarter final do your research lad’ adding two medal emoji’s to hammer home the point.
Carson was referring to the Reds’ last eight first leg tie with Juventus in 2005, which saw Rafa Benitez’s men beat the Italian giants 2-1 with Carson starting and completing the entire match.
The 37-year-old joined Man City on-loan from Derby in 2019, as back-up for Ederson and Claudio Bravo. During that season he made his first Premier League appearance in nearly a decade against Newcastle and saved a penalty from Joe Willock.

Following two loan spells, he joined the club on a permanent basis in 2021, and added a Champions League appearance for the club as a substitute in a 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon during last season’s knockout clash.
During his career Carson has also represented Leeds, West Brom and Wigan as well as numerous loan spells most notably with Charlton and then Aston Villa.
He has won four England caps, and is perhaps best remembered for the letting Niko Kranjcar’s shot bounce in front him before parrying it into the net as Steve McLaren’s side failed to qualify for Euro 2008.
