The goalkeeper put in a stellar display to help his side come away with a 1-0 win
‘You’re just praying (with the rebound). We haven’t had that kind of luck. The last penalty I saved here, they scored the rebound.
‘When you’re up against opposition like that, you need that bit of luck. We want to try to have the ball but in periods against teams like Man City or Liverpool, there will be long periods where you don’t.’
The Dane went on: ‘It was a very important win. The turnaround is so fast; we had a very difficult game two days ago.
‘To go out, in the second half, in the previous game and then have tired legs, tired minds – to put in a performance like that is a credit to everyone, to our character.
‘We haven’t had it our way this season. The thing about us is we don’t give up.’
Schmeichel made a brilliant reaction save from Salah with his fingertips and also denied Virgil van Dijk with his feet in the second half.
Liverpool’s usually potent attack with stifled and a breakaway goal from Ademola Lookman proved to be the difference.
Schmeichel continued: ‘Ade [Lookman] came on, fantastic, it was a great assist by Dewsbury-Hall. The key this season is consistency.
‘We haven’t found that consistency. The thing about it is, if I’m sitting back analysing us as a team, club, unit, if I thought we weren’t doing enough, it would be a problem. I can honestly say we’re working really hard on every aspect of our game.’
The win means Leicester are now ninth in the Premier League, while Liverpool remain second but trail Manchester City by six points.
