Schalke boss explains Ozan Kabak’s deadline day feeling about Liverpool transfer
Liverpool’s new signing Ozan Kabak didn’t hesitate before deciding to join the Reds, claims Schalke manager Christian Gross.
Kabak joined the Reds on loan on transfer deadline day, with the Premier League champions holding the option to make his stay permanent.
Liverpool will have to pay £18million if they want to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent deal.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be a big fan of the centre-back, and could hand him his first-team debut this week, pending Premier League approval.
The deal was speculated about before the transfer window opened, but after Joel Matip was ruled out for the rest of the season, Liverpool were forced to act.
Liverpool brought in Ben Davies from Preston before completing their move for Kabak.
And according to Gross, the Turkish international was eager to go as soon as the opportunity came about.
“When Ozan heard the name Liverpool, he didn’t hesitate long and asked the club to do everything possible to make it work,” Kicker report him saying.
Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk's 2018 gift to Ozan Kabak explained after transfer
“If he has the opportunity to continue his career at Liverpool, no player will have to think twice.
“The opportunity to train under Klopp will definitely help him.
“Of course, in that case, he will look to himself first, but we only handed him over with the certainty that we had a very good replacement for him.”
Kabak will be available for selection against Brighton on Wednesday night, but Klopp hinted he might not start due to the quick turnaround after his move.
He said: "It's not perfect. The January transfer window is not my favourite because we signed the players yesterday and they play tomorrow night so we will see if they are available or not.
"If they had to start together tomorrow that wouldn't be too cool. I think we will give them a few more days. We play three days later again so it means we are in a position where team patterns are very important and everyone needs to know what he is doing.”
