Saudi Arabia manager Herve Renard’s partner was previously married to another World Cup giant-killer.

Frenchman Renard led the Arab nation to a glorious victory over Argentina this week in one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. The 54-year-old became an instant icon as his side came back from a goal down to trump Lionel Messi and co.

The colourful ex-Cambridge United boss is currently in a relationship with Senegalese beauty Viviane Dieye – and it seems she has a rather specific type in French international managers who are capable of beating the odds.

Dieye is the widow of former Senegal national team coach Bruno Metsu, who died from cancer in 2013. Like Renard, Metsu stunned the footballing world by delivering a World Cup giant-killing with a first-round victory over France in 2002.

France were the world and European champions at the time which made the feat even more shocking. It was a similar scenario to Argentina’s defeat on Tuesday, with the South Americans having been tournament favourites heading into their Qatar opener.

Renard and Viviane, who both have three children separately, are understood to have fallen for each other after Metsu's passing. It came while the Saudi manager was in charge of Morocco.

The Sun report that there will be even more cause for celebration soon among the Renard family as the couple are believed to be planning to tie the knot.

The French coach is well known for managing a whole host of African nations in the past, including Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast and Morocco. But none were as close to achieving greatness as his current Saudi Arabia side, who take on Poland on Saturday afternoon.
