Sam Allardyce has been relegated from the Premier League for the first time in his managerial career following West Brom's 3-1 defeat away at Arsenal.

The Baggies have endured a miserable campaign, suffering 19 defeats in 35 games and recording only five wins.

Allardyce was brought in purposely to steer them clear of the relegation battle, with his tremendous track record of keeping teams afloat convincing club chiefs to sack Slaven Bilic and hire him back in December.

But not even Big Sam was able to save West Brom, whose fate has now been sealed after Sunday's defeat at Arsenal.

The Midlands club now sit 10 points adrift of safety with just three matches to play, meaning it is mathematically impossible for them to stay up.

Their relegation will plunge Allardyce's future into serious doubt, as the 66-year-old's 18-month contract is said to have a break clause.

He has not ruled out staying at the club and plotting their route back to the top flight, but Allardyce admits the situation is an uncertain one.

"It needs both [sides] to agree what we are going to do," he said.

"If one of us disagrees, we hold our hands up and say 'thank you very much'. If we both agree to go forward, we get on with it.

Allardyce had never been relegated from the Premier League in 30 years as a manager before West Brom's drop on Sunday, working miracles in his time at Bolton, Blackburn, Sunderland, West Ham and Crystal Palace.
