Salah to quit Liverpool in 2023 but ‘stay in the Prem’ if his demands aren’t met

Mohamed Salah will reportedly leave Liverpool in 2023 and stay in the Premier League if his contract demands aren't met.

Salah's current deal with the Reds runs out at the end of next season and he is yet to reach an agreement with Anfield chiefs after months of negotiations. According to The Athletic, the 29-year-old will be going nowhere this summer having committed himself to Jurgen Klopp's side for the 2022/23 campaign.

However, unless he receives a significantly improved offer, he will walk away from Merseyside as a free agent next year. And he would prefer to stay in English football.

That will be a blow to European giants such as Barcelona and Real Madrid who have been linked with him in the past. And it will put Liverpool's domestic rivals on red alert.

There's a limited number of clubs who will be able to afford Salah's wage demands. He is currently said to be earning £200,000-per-week – a figure he wants roughly doubled to reflect his status as one of the Prem's best players

Manchester City will of course be in the running if the Egypt international was up for grabs, while Chelsea and Manchester United would appear to be the only other feasible options.

Salah, who earlier this year said he wasn't asking for "crazy stuff", remains open to re-signing with Liverpool. But he is only looking for a two-year contraction extension.

He's believed to be happy at Liverpool but has only been offered what amounted to a 15 per cent pay rise, sources close to him told The Athletic. And that puts him nowhere near the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin de Bruyne, who are each earning around £385k-per-week as the Prem's top money makers.

Salah is said to be looking to become the sixth-best paid player on the planet. PSG trio Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar make up the top three.
