Bukayo Saka is unsurprisingly a fan favourite on the Emirates Stadium terraces as he helps guide Arsenal toward their first Premier League title since 2004. But he may have risked facing the wrath of Gunners supporters by naming Alexis Sanchez as a career idol…
Saka is enjoying his best season to date, scoring 10 goals and registering nine assists in 27 Premier League appearances.
The 21-year-old recently spoke to the Evening Standard, revealing that he watched Sanchez a lot while in the youth ranks at Hale End.
He said: “I watched Alexis Sanchez a lot growing up. He was a special player. I loved many things about him.
“That’s one of the qualities he had — he always got up, fought to the end. You could say I took that from him, but at the same time, I have my own goals and ambitions. That’s also [part of] my drive.”
Sanchez was one of the greatest players in Arsenal’s history, producing 80 goals and 45 assists in 160 games between 2014 and 2018.

However, he tarnished his reputation in north London after joining Manchester United as part of a swap deal in January 2018, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.
Saka played a risky game naming Sanchez as an idol after such a treacherous act that mirrored Robin van Persie’s switch to Arsenal’s bitter rivals in 2012.
The Dutchman’s exit was made even worse by the fact he fired United to the Premier League title in his first season, something he couldn’t do under Arsene Wenger.
But Sanchez may have saved Saka some slack through his recent social media activity, seemingly siding with Arsenal over the Red Devils.
Ahead of the high-profile clash at the Emirates in January, Arsenal posted a video of the Chilean’s strike in a 3-0 win over United in October 2015.

And Sanchez reposted it on social media, suggesting he would be supporting Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing side over the club he ditched them for.
“You remembered me. I will never forget you too. You will always be in my heart,” Sanchez wrote.
“You were my first family in England, and everybody took good care of me, especially the fans. All the best, Gunners.”
That said, even if Sanchez’s relationship with Arsenal fans were at an even worse place, it would be hard for anyone to come out swinging at Saka, given his role in an incredible season so far.
