Wrexham have confirmed the blockbuster signing of former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Foster, who announced his retirement from football in September, has joined the Ryan Reynolds-owned club on a short-term deal until the end of the season following an injury to Rob Lainton against Bromley on Saturday. Foster had a spell on loan at Wrexham from Stoke City in 2005 and returns to the club with the Dragons top of the National League.
Foster spoke to Wrexham's official website after the move was confirmed. He said: "I’m over the moon. I’ve been at the club an hour this morning and it seems a really nice place. Everyone is down to earth and the manager’s top class.

"It’s changed a lot since I was last here, but it’s nice to be back and it’s nice to be back as a player too. It will be interesting to see how my body feels after training today! I’m looking forward to getting started.
"The first time I was here, it was genuinely the springboard to the rest of my career – on the back of the loan move, playing in the LDV Vans Trophy Final at the Millennium Stadium, I got my move to Manchester United at the start of the next season. It was absolutely bonkers!

"If you’d told me 18 years ago that I’d have gone on to have the career that I have had, I probably wouldn’t have believed you to be honest so I do owe a lot to Wrexham.”
Fans are understandably delighted about the move, with one explaining just how excited he is, writing: "Add the new striker and Ben foster to the mix and it all comes together to give me a massive f***ing stiffy."
Someone else said: "It's actually happened!! That is brilliant!!" A third person added: "Oh My God!!!!! Just hope he’s as good as he was the first time around… My fave keeper."
Another user commented: "What a signing." As another excited Wrexham supporter chimed in with: "Eeeeee I eee I eee I ohhhh up the football league we go."
Foster has enjoyed a distinguished career at the top level, most notably with United. The 39-year-old spent five years at Old Trafford, making 23 appearances in all competitions and winning two League Cups.
He also appeared eight times for England and was named in the squad for the 2014 World Cup. After leaving United, Foster moved south to Birmingham City, before six seasons at West Brom and four seasons at Watford.
The former Three Lions star officially retired in September 2022 and has since found fame online as a vlogger. However, the lure of a fairytale return to the Racecourse with Wrexham has proved too hard to resist for Foster, who has been welcomed by fans.
Foster is Wrexham's second signing in 24 hours following the arrival of Billy Waters from Barrow on Wednesday. The double signing has significantly boosted the club's promotion hopes with eight games left of the National League season.
Wrexham are currently three points clear of title rivals Notts County at the summit, having played one game less than the Midlands side. The Dragons consolidated their lead at the top with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Bromley on Saturday in a game which saw regular stopper Lainton pick up a season-ending injury.
