Ryan Reynolds blows Lewis Hamilton out of the water with net worth after F1 deal
Ryan Reynolds shares moment pitch is invaded after Wrexham promotion
Ryan Reynolds is set to grow his net worth after investing in a Formula One team, but the Deadpool actor is already richer than Lewis Hamilton and the rest of the grid before he’s even got started. The Hollywood star and his Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney are part of a group that is taking a 24 per cent equity stake in F1 outfit Alpine.
The team, which is owned by Renault, confirmed on Monday that the celebrity duo are investing in partnership with Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners as part of a £171m deal that values the British-based operation at £706m overall.
It is the latest sporting investment by Reynolds and McElhenney after the pair snapped up non-league football side Wrexham in 2020 for £2m before pumping £10m into the club and helping them win promotion back to the Football League for the first time in 15 years.
Deep pockets are required to participate in Formula One, but with Reynolds in particular, that does not appear to be much of a problem.
Before announcing the deal for Alpine, Reynolds had a net worth of a whopping £282m ($350m) – more than any currently active F1 driver, including Lewis Hamilton.

The seven times world champion leads the pack in terms of wealth with a net worth of £270.9m followed by former double world champion Fernando Alonso, with £216m.
The younger Max Verstappen is currently some way back on Hamilton and Alonso, with the current world title holder reportedly enjoying a net worth of £72m. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez is next on £62.4m, while Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll is ticking over nicely on £41.6m. Stroll is never likely to run out of cash, however, given that his billionaire father Lawrence Stroll runs the F1 team he represents.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer McElhenney might not be able to match the likes of partner Reynolds, nor Hamilton and Alsono when it comes to overall net worth, but his £39.2m fortune is still greater than all but six drivers on the F1 grid today. And that situation looks to be getting better for McElhenney following his latest investment in Alpine.

Reynolds has made his fortune through his successful involvement in a number of business deals away from acting. He became a shareholder in Aviation American Gin in 2018 before the company was sold two years later for £491.5m.
As well as owning his own creative agency Maximum Effort, he is a board member of Match Group, which runs the dating websites Tinder, Match.com and Hinge. The 46-year-old also had a stake in Mint Mobile, which was sold to T-Mobile earlier this year, earning him a very welcome £241.5m.
With so many fruitful business activities on the go, it could be easy to forget that Reynolds is still very much an actor on the up. He was paid £1.6m for starring in the original Deadpool film but after returning for the sequel two years later, that sum increased to £17.7m.
Reynolds’ track record suggests that his investment in F1 is good news for Alpine, who will be hoping that alongside McElhenney he can reverse their fortunes on the track, just like he has done on the pitch with Wrexham.
