Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney compared to Man Utd owners by Gary Neville
What can Wrexham expect in League Two?
Gary Neville has praised Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for the approach they have taken to owning Wrexham, while once again criticising the owners of Manchester United. The Glazer family are currently considering two firm offers to transfer ownership of the Red Devils into new hands.
The Nine Two Foundation led by Qatari Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe of chemicals giant Ineos have both submitted several takeover bids but little development appears to have been made.
And the lack of progress has frustrated former United captain Neville who just wants to see the matter resolved as quickly as possible.
Speaking about the sale process Neville said: “Honestly, I think everyone has got the point whereby what the Glazers do, they erode every little last bit of energy out of everything that they do.”
The former England right-back claim that “everyone’s bored now” and that the current owners “just don’t care” and won’t listen to criticism.
He added: “The fans have had enough, they want them out and I think to be fair – it’s sad, really, that it’s come to that but that’s exactly how I think everybody feels. They know nothing about Manchester or the north west of England and the tradition of football in this part. They have not embedded themselves in the local culture.”
Neville’s view of the Glazers is in stark contrast to the high regard in which he appears to hold Wrexham owners Reynolds and McElhenney.
The Hollywood actors took control of the north wales club in 2021 and have since invested £10million into the project, turning the non-league outfit into National League champions and in doing so, securing a return to the Football League for the first time in 15 years.

But it is the celebrity pair’s commitment to integrating into local life in Wrexham that has impressed Neville the most.
Speaking about the “effort” put in by Deadpool actor Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator McElhenney, Neville said: “They turn up there. They’ve done it well at Wrexham and they’ve got obviously a long way to go to get to probably where they want to be, Championship (or) Premier League, and probably that might take three years, eight years, 12 years, who knows.”
Despite his clear disdain for the Glazers, Neville did accept that they were “good business people” who are “smart” and have made his former club a more valuable asset. The Glazers are said to value Manchester United at around £6billionn.
Neville has been travelling around the UK filming editions of his Overlap football discussion show with former players Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher for Sky.
