Ryan Mason claims Harry Kane is 'underappreciated'
‘This country should appreciate his special talent’: Ryan Mason believes it could be 10 YEARS before Harry Kane gets the credit he deserves… as the England captain prepares to rescue Tottenham’s sorry season
- The interim coach said that he doesn’t believe Kane’s gifts are discussed enough
- Spurs vice-captain will look to add to his goal tally against Liverpool on Sunday
- Tottenham ADAMANT Kane won’t be sold but indirect negotiations have begun
Ryan Mason believes it could take another 10 years before Tottenham forward Harry Kane is truly appreciated.
While Spurs have endured a tumultuous campaign and currently have no permanent manager or managing director of football, it has been another impressive season for their talisman.
Kane became the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer in February, broke the England scoring record a month later and starred in Thursday’s 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United.
The Tottenham vice-captain will look to add to his 24 Premier League strikes in Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield, but continues to be mocked over his lack of silverware.
Mason said: ‘This country probably doesn’t appreciate how good he is as a footballer. He’s incredible, ‘This country should appreciate we’ve got a real special talent.
Ryan Mason has suggested that Harry Kane’s achievements are widely underappreciated
The caretaker coach (L) could yet be the last Spurs manager to work with the England star
‘It’s probably natural, I think we say that about all our great players.
‘Maybe in 10 years we’ll look back and we’ll say what a great player Harry really was and that we probably should have celebrated him more while we were enjoying watching him play football.
‘I’ve always been quite consistent on that. I played with him, I saw it and I felt what kind of player he was.
‘At the same time even as a fan of football, it’s hard not to love and appreciate the type of player that he is.
‘It probably doesn’t get spoken about enough but off the pitch we’re talking about someone who has acted in the right way for over a decade now.
‘There have been no problems, no negativity, no scandals and that says a lot for me. I know Harry very well and I know his family very well as well. He’s an example of what I’d want any young kid to look up to..’
If Spurs are to rescue their sorry season by claiming a place in the Europa League, Kane will be crucial to their hopes.
Mason, who is the club’s third manager of the campaign, was impressed with their togetherness during Thursday’s comeback against Man United.
He hinted that had been an issue under his predecessors Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini.
‘Of course I feel confident otherwise I wouldn’t be sitting here,’ the 31-year-old insisted.
‘But at the same time, I realise there are five games for this club and the focus is on what is best for this club. That is my priority.
‘Trying to create togetherness and make everyone feel like we’re together, inside and outside of these walls, is the most important thing.
Mason previously served as interim manager in 2021 after the departure of Jose Mourinho
Antonio Conte (L) was replaced in March by his assistant Cristian Stellini, who was sacked following Spurs’ woeful 6-1 defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park
‘At times this season that has probably not been the case and when that is not the case, that can affect results on the football pitch and we’ve seen that at times this year.
‘In football negativity can spread very quickly but so can positivity. If you create a good feeling and energy, it can accelerate a process.
‘Hopefully we’ll continue with what we saw in the second half.’
