On Wednesday night, the Brazilian-born right back jumped for a header and was unable to break his fall – causing him to land directly on his back.

After a lengthy period of treatment on the pitch, Fernandes was carried off on a stretcher in the 26th minute of the game.

He was seen wearing a yellow support device on his head and neck as headed to the hospital to undergo several scans.

Russia have, however, confirmed that Fernandes does not have a spinal injury and revealed that he would travel with the team to Moscow.

‘Fernandes was suspected of having a thoracic spine injury,’ the Russian team said in a statement.

‘According to the scan results, Fernandes does not have a spinal injury. He is flying with the team to Moscow and will be under the supervision of the doctors of the Russian national team.’

Russia, who lost 3-0 to Belgium in their group opener, play Denmark in their final group game in Copenhagen on Monday.
