Roy Keane picks out two disappointing Man Utd players in Liverpool draw
Roy Keane was disappointed with the performances of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford as Manchester United were held to a goalless draw at Liverpool on Sunday night.
The much-anticipated contest was not a particularly memorable one, with neither team at their best or able to carve out regular chances.
Manchester United did create the best two opportunities of the contest, with Fernandes and Paul Pogba with excellent chances near the end of the match to pinch a huge three points.
Fernandes was a long way from his brilliant best and United legend Keane picked him and Rashford out as Red Devils players who were below par.
‘Rashford for me never turned up, Fernandes didn’t play that well either,’ Keane told Sky Sports.
While he was not disappointed with his performance, Keane was left frustrated by Pogba’s missed chance late in the second half.
The Frenchman fired a shot straight at goalkeeper Alisson Becker from close range, which the Irishman felt was a huge waste.
‘When you get these opportunities like Pogba did there, I’m so disappointed,’ said Keane.
‘We’ve been giving Pogba a bit of a big build up, we’ve been quick to criticise him.
‘That was a moment for him there to say, listen, he wants to be the main man, he’s got to take that chance. But I wouldn’t be too critical of United.’
Keane was certainly more positive than negative about the result at Anfield as United remain three points ahead of Liverpool and two points clear of Leicester at the top of the table.
‘The back four were brilliant, there were plenty of plusses for United,’ he added. ‘I think United should go back tonight, the players and staff should be encouraged by it, without a doubt.’
