Roy Keane not impressed with Bruno Fernandes antics in loss to Liverpool

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was not impressed with Bruno Fernandes’ antics in the loss to Liverpool.

The Portuguese midfielder helped to open the scoring goal for his side but ended up being on the losing team in a 4-2 home defeat.

He tried to prevent the Reds going ahead by rolling on the floor claiming a foul ahead of a free kick which Roberto Firmino scored from for a 2-1 lead at half time.

It saw Keane, who won seven top-flight titles during his time at United, give a scathing review of Fernandes’ role in Liverpool’s third goal.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, the former midfielder said: “Maybe the referee was confused.

"Being critical of Fernandes, he spent half the night crying on the side of the pitch.

"Every time he got tackled he was rolling around.

"I think United's players are kind of looking for Liverpool to kick the ball out of play, but as we know you're supposed to carry on unless it's a head injury."

It is not the first time Keane has criticised Fernandes, picking apart the midfielder’s performance in the 0-0 draw between the sides at Anfield in January.

Speaking about his approach to ‘Big Six’ games, the Irishman said: “It's not easy winning football trophies.

"Fernandes has had great praise for the last few months and people have been comparing him to [Eric] Cantona etc. Fernandes didn't really do much tonight.

“The top players turn up on the big occasions. And that's what the Cantona's used to do – they get their hands on trophies. That's where this team are a little bit short."

Fernandes took a shot on Alisson’s goal after 10 minutes of play at Old Trafford, with his effort deflected by Nat Phillips past the Brazilian.
