Roy Keane defends Marcus Rashford from Micah Richards during Liverpool vs Man Utd
Liverpool v Man Utd: Match in pictures
Roy Keane launched a defence of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford after the striker was criticised by Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards. In his analysis at half-time of the goalless draw between United and Liverpool, Richards was heavily critical of the visitors and Rashford in particular.
United were caught offside seven times in the opening period, with Rashford one of the main culprits.
And former Manchester City defender Richards highlighted that as one of the key areas that the Red Devils needed to improve.
Although he admitted playing away to the reigning Premier League champions was a tough challenge, Richards was less than happy with United’s first half display.
“I was disappointed with Manchester United if I’m being totally honest, I gave them the big speel beforehand,” he said.

“We know they’re at Anfield which is a tough place to go, but they’re dropping too deep. This is a team who are top of the league, take the game to Liverpool.
“You can’t win the league playing like that. Yeah they’re good on the counter-attack, but Rashford’s been offside seven times in that first half or Man United have been.
“They need to be better. If they want to win the league, I’ve talked up Man United and I think they’re a good side, especially on the counter attack, but they can’t win the league playing as negatively as that.”
United did improve after the break, and arguably had the two best chances to win the game.

But neither Bruno Fernandes nor Paul Pogba could beat Alisson in the Liverpool goal.
Richards’ fellow pundit Roy Keane disagreed with the 32-year-old, giving him a withering look before revealing he was happy with how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had performed before the break.
“I think United have been dangerous. I know they’ve been caught offside seven or eight times but I think that’s a good sign,” he said.
“They just need to get one of those passes right. We said before the game that Liverpool were going to start quickly, they’ve had 10 or 11 days off, they’ve not been at their best but they were going to be out of the traps quick.
“I think United will be delighted to be going in at half-time at 0-0. Do they want to pass it better and create more? Of course they do.
“But they’re going to the champions Liverpool, home record like we said fantastic, United just need to get one of them passes right and someone’s clean through on goal.”
The point means United are now two points clear of Leicester City at the top of the Premier League.
They are also now 13 games unbeaten in the top flight, with a visit to Fulham next up for Solskjaer’s side on Friday night.
