Roy Keane has suggested ‘agents must be delighted dealing with Manchester United’ after Erik ten Hag’s side handed new signing Casemiro a five-year deal.

30-year-old Casemiro has joined United on a £350,000-per-week deal with the club hoping he will be the answer to their long-running midfield problems after missing out on Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot.

Keane, who was speaking on Sky Sports before the game, admitted he thinks the Brazilian is a good signing, but questioned the thought behind the deal.

Former United midfielder Roy Keane has questioned the thought process behind the deal

‘I think he’s a good signing,’ said Keane. ‘They paid a lot of money on a five-year deal.

‘If United come looking, you know will get a good deal. They are desperate, it is a lot of money – the agents out there must be delighted dealing with Man United.

‘Any player coming in is coming into a bad group and that’s a problem for any player.’

Gary Neville, meanwhile, admitted it is hard to get excited about new signings at the club because he knows they haven’t been in United’s plans long-term.

The Red Devils missed out on primary midfield target de Jong before chasing Rabiot, but that deal too fell through over issues surrounding personal terms.

‘Sometimes I don’t get as excited as I should do as a United fan about the signings because I know they were not part of the strategy at the start of the summer,’ said Neville, who made 604 appearances for United in a career-long stay at the club.

‘Every other club is so precise, you don’t see them bouncing around like a pinball machine.

United signed Casemiro after missing out on first-choice midfielder Frenkie de Jong

‘It’s de Jong, it’s Rabiot, and it ends up as Cesemiro. He’ll do well for a couple of years, but someone in two years will pick up a player beyond his best years on big money that they can’t shift, that could be anyone.

‘There is an element of desperation – a five-year contract for a 30-year-old should not happen.’

Casemiro was seen on the pitch at Old Trafford before tonight’s game against Liverpool, having failed to sign in time to play in the match.
