Roy Keane has furiously blasted Manchester United’s defending during a dire first half against rivals City in the Manchester derby.
United went in at half-time 2-0 down at Old Trafford after Eric Bailly’s own goal and statuesque defending saw Bernardo Silva double the lead just before the break.
And former United captain Keane hit out at David de Gea and Luke Shaw in particular at half-time, insisting he has been ‘cross with them for years’.

United went in at half-time 2-0 down in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday
He said: ‘City got sloppy, but just on half-time, huge goal. Comes out to (Joao) Cancelo and he puts a great ball in with his left foot. But this defending – (Luke) Shaw, (David) de Gea, not enough pressure, you need to put pressure (on).
‘It’s nearly half-time, stay in the game! Look at Shaw and de Gea, what chance have you got in this game. Look at Shaw here, the goalkeeper – I’ve been cross with these fellas for years. I give up on these players.
‘These are international footballers! I can’t understand the defending – I give up. I’m driving down here today thinking “Man United might have a chance, they’re at home”.
Keane also criticised David de Gea (left) and Luke Shaw (right) for their role in the second goal
The pair were far too passive in allowing Joao Cancelo’s cross to fall for Bernardo Silva (centre)
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (pictured) had boos ringing in his ears at the half-time whistle
‘They’ve been like this all season, giving up chances. City got a little bit arrogant and gave them one or two chances but it’s two at the moment. Unless United do something drastic, it will be another four or five.’
Fellow Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness added: ‘Look at Bruno Fernandes here, “Why don’t you cross the ball, I’m not going to close you down”. It’s a simple thing, but a fundamental thing.
‘Stop the crosses, do your mates in the middle a favour and stop the ball getting across. That is a joke. The second goal was brought about by the same thing. People not doing the fundamental things.’
