Roy Keane and Micah Richards slam "pure greed" in European Super League plans

Roy Keane and Micah Richards have lashed out at plans to form a European Super League as six Premier League clubs are linked with the widely criticised move.

The Sky Sports duo were questioned over the leaked plans during half-time of Manchester United’s eventual 3-1 win over Burnley – with both their former clubs slammed.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal are said to have taken part in lengthy talks over the breakaway league – with a statement expected on Sunday evening.

The Premier League have already issued an official statement hitting out at the plans, with Gary Neville calling for those involved to be deducted points.

Keane said: “Totally agree with the last few lines you mentioned there. I think it comes down to money, greed. We’ve heard nothing from FIFA yet, but it doesn’t sound good.

“Let’s hope it’s stopped in its tracks because I think it’s just pure greed.

“We talk about big clubs, Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“At least they’ve made a stance, which is a good start.”

With Richards adding: “I agree with Roy. The Premier League has been run amazingly, we all know clubs are an investment, it’s a business at the end of the day, but what happens to the fans?

“What happens to the memories of what the fans have had over the years? They’re just forgotten about for the sake of money, and that’s the way football has become now.

“I think it’s an absolute disgrace.”
