Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher tuck into fish and chips cooked by Gary Neville

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville didn't flounder when asked to cook up a fish and chip supper for colleagues Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher.

Although the Premier League campaign has only just concluded, Neville & Co. are already plumbing the depths readying content ahead of next season. And the Manchester United legend took Carragher and Keane to his native Bury while filming for the upcoming release of their new TV series, The Overlap on Tour.

Neville, 48, injected some sole into the recording with a return to his roots at the Stephen Street Chippery, a plaice he and his family used to frequent during his childhood. And in a scene fit to warm your cockles, the cod-ger was even given a turn behind the fryer to whip up some fried delights in a nostalgic scene.

"We knew about the visit about a month ago but they asked us to keep it hush-hush because they didn't want mobbing outside," John Kilgariff – who runs the shop with wife Rebecca – told the Manchester Evening News. "Apparently Gary used to come in here with his mum and grandmother and it was their favourite chippy.

"They were quite chatty and there was a bit of banter going. They were like every other customer that comes in. There was no airs and graces with them, they were pretty down to earth. They cajoled Gary into cooking fish and chips for all three of them. They were here for about 45 minutes in total."

After frying up a feast at Neville's old haunt, the trio were pictured enjoying their meal – fish and chips for Neville and Carragher; chips with Irish curry for Keane – on a bench in nearby Whitehead Park. But not before posing for a parade of pictures with the Stephen Street staff.

Having bobbed to the surface as arguably the best of their generation, partners in crime Neville and Carragher are normally looked to for their pearls of wisdom. However, the public piranhas pounced on the former when his confusing comments about 'mini-retirements' recently resurfaced.

One can bet a shark like Keane won't put up with pollocks like that should similar remarks make their way into The Overlap on Tour, which is set to debut on Sky Max later this summer.

Neville and Keane have combined on The Overlap in the past, with the 1999 treble-winning pair embarking on deep dives into their trophy-laden days together at Old Trafford. The Republic of Ireland icon even joked on a recent episode that Neville's famous kiss on Paul Scholes was 'to make his girlfriend jealous'.

The Overlap on Tour is scheduled to host live shows in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Dublin before the new series arrives. Fans will be expecting some brill insight that's bound to be the stuff of breams – though the pundits each have their reasons to be somewhat crabby in the wake of Manchester City's Treble.
