Roy Keane aims dig at "cocky" Micah Richards after Man Utd claim bragging rights
Roy Keane had the last laugh as he was able to poke fun at overly confident Micah Richards, following Manchester United ’s 2-0 victory at the Etihad.
Manchester City came into the fixture on the back of 21 straight wins, just two shy of Bayern Munich’s European record.
But that run was ended by an impressive United display, with Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw scoring for the visitors.
Former City defender and lifelong blue Richards was rightly confident ahead of the Manchester derby, predicting that his old side would extend their lead at the top of the table.
And while they still sit 11 points ahead of their local rivals, during a segment on Sky Sports, Richards admitted he was hurting after the derby day defeat.
“I feel like drowning my sorrows in a sports bar,” Richards joked. “They will bounce back, the run they’ve been on, it’s been a great run.
“It just hurts today, it hurts me sitting here, because it’s Manchester United.”
Asked about his confidence before kick-off, he added: “I spoke too soon didn’t I?
“Fair play to United, they really played well. Their tactics were spot on. They’ve lost a game, it’s not the end of the world.
“It hurts me here now. You never want to lose to United.”
Keane, who has developed real chemistry with Richards in recent months, didn’t miss the chance to have a dig: “But you were cocky before the game weren’t you Micah.”
“When you’re on a 21-game winning run you can be a bit cocky!” Richards said in reply.
Keane then jumped back in, saying: “Man United are still coming to town, you underestimated Man United.”
Richards still believes City will have the last laugh however and told the old Red Devils skipper to come back and compare the two teams at the end of the campaign.
“We’ll see where you are at the end of the season. Come May, we’ll see where you are and see where City are.
“City will bounce back against Southampton.”
