Wayne Rooney has jokingly suggested that Harry Kane is being ‘held as a prisoner’ at Tottenham, amid the ongoing transfer debacle surrounding him.
Spurs have already rejected multiple advances for Kane this summer, with German giants Bayern Munich pushing hardest to sign the England captain.
While new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has reiterated Kane’s desires to stay at the club, it’s hasn’t stopped one ex-England striker from weighing in on the situation.
According The Athletic, DC United boss Rooney said: ‘Harry Kane would be the ideal player, for me, to go and join Manchester United.
‘It looks like he’s being held as a prisoner at Tottenham! It looks very difficult for him to get out of there.

The Tottenham striker has been chased by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich this summer
‘If Manchester United have Harry Kane, then that gives their chances of going to win, and compete, a lot easier. But where that happens, remains to be seen.’
In 2021, Kane made his intentions to leave Tottenham clear after failing to report to the team’s pre-season duty during the summer.
Kane had reportedly had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with club chairman Daniel Levy, which the Spurs chief supposedly went back on.
While Kane has managed to settle back into the Spurs side – and become the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the process – suggestions that he could leave remain.
Bundesliga champions Bayern have been closely pursuing the England captain and saw a £70million (plus add-ons) bid rejected by Spurs at the start of the month.
The German champions made their bid after being given indications that Kane wants to join them, with just one year left on contract.
Last week, Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness explained that discussions with Kane have indicated the player wants to complete a move.
Hoeness turned up at Bayern’s training camp in the Bavarian town of Tegernsee on Saturday and, never shy of an opinion, bullishly told Sport1: ‘Harry Kane has clearly signalled in all conversations that his decision stands – and if he keeps to his word, then we’ll get him, because then Tottenham will have to buckle.’
Kane played 45 minutes of Tottenham’s first pre-season match on Tuesday, as the side fell to a 3-2 defeat against rivals West Ham United
However, Kane is yet to make the same suggestions and, instead, starred in Tottenham’s first pre-season match on Tuesday afternoon.
The north London side were beaten 3-2 by London rivals West Ham in a closely contested match at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.
Danny Ings, Divin Mubamba and Gianluca Scamacca were all on target for the Hammers as they cruised to victory on the night.
Kane failed to get on the scoresheet for Spurs, with Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie finding the back of the net for Postecoglou’s side.
