Ronaldo’s scoring form prompts Piers Morgan to confront Erik Ten Hag
Ten Hag comments as Shaw signs new Man Utd deal
Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest goals for Al-Nassr have prompted Piers Morgan to launch a stinging attack on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag. After a slow start in Saudi Arabia, former Red Devils star Ronaldo has finally hit form and has scored 11 goals in just nine Saudi Pro League matches.
Ronaldo was cast aside by Ten Hag for several big games at the start of the season and subsequently conducted an interview with his biggest cheerleader to complain about the Dutchman and several aspects of the club. The result was a sad and abrupt ending for United’s former No 7, with his contract torn up by “mutual consent”.
And after Ronaldo struck his 10th and 11th goals for new club Al-Nassr, Morgan took to social media to dunk on the man who, since the Portuguese icon’s departure, has put United in strong contention for Champions League qualification. Ronaldo scored twice in a 5-0 win over Al-Adalah and Morgan slated Ten Hag for replacing the veteran striker with the goal-shy Wout Weghorst.
Retweeting a video of one of Ronaldo’s goals, Morgan screamed into the abyss: “Two more goals for Cristiano so far tonight, including this superb one which once again suggests Ten Hag’s decision to dump him for Wout Weghorst was one of the worst in football history.”

Weghorst was signed on loan from Burnley in January to replace Ronaldo – whose Al-Nassr side have slipped down the table since the 38-year-old’s arrival. The Dutchman was wanted by Ten Hag for his ability to press the opposition better than his predecessor. Judged on that metric alone, the gangly forward has certainly done well.
But of course, Weghorst has struggled for goals at Old Trafford and is yet to score in the Premier League. His only strikes have come in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.
After the 30-year-old produced a below-par performance against Newcastle on Sunday, United icon Gary Neville claimed Ten Hag was “let down” by the club’s owners, the Glazer Family, in January. “He was badly let down in January,” the former right-back concluded.

Reason Man Utd vs Brentford isn’t on Sky Sports, BT Sport or Amazon [EXPLAINED]
“That Ronaldo interview that was done with Piers Morgan, I think was done in November. And he was always going to leave at the start of the World Cup. Manchester United then had six weeks before the transfer window began and they made a conscious decision not to give Erik ten Hag the money – because they haven’t got the money.
“They made a conscious decision to say you have to bring in someone on loan and he was left then with [no] options – who’s going to loan Manchester United a world class striker in January? So they ended up with Weghorst.
“I don’t blame Weghorst at all, I think he’s done a really good job. He obviously isn’t good enough to be a Manchester United striker, but Erik ten Hag was doing really well for the Manchester United players and he needed support in January with a top class striker.
