Ronaldo’s new strike partner to be World Cup hero who was sent off celebrating

Cristiano Ronaldo could partner Cameroon hero Vincent Aboubakar up front at Al Nassr after reports emerged that he had agreed a mega contract with the Saudi Arabian side.

A fine striker in his own right, the 30-year-old notably shot to fame recently after being sent off against Brazil for taking his shirt off. It came after netting a late winner in their final World Cup match with their fate already decided.

Having already received a yellow card earlier in the match, referee Ismail Elfath appeared somewhat apologetic as he gave the Al Nassr star a friendly tap on the back and a high five before sending him off.

Aboubakar did not seem to mind having secured a historic victory for Cameroon against World Cup favourites Brazil – which took the African country to four points and saw them finish third in their group above Serbia.

And as he prepares to return to life at club level, he might be shocked to find that he could be partnering Ronaldo up front after recent reports. It has emerged that the 37-year-old is on the verge of agreeing a deal worth £176m-a-year to sign for Al Nassr.

That contract will reportedly come into effect on January 1 2023, two weeks after the World Cup final. At the moment, Ronaldo is still looking to steer Portugal towards glory in Qatar.

But if he puts pen to paper over this blockbuster contract, he will not have far to travel when arriving at his club with Al Nassr in neighbouring Saudi Arabia. It comes just weeks after his contract at Manchester United was mutually terminated after a sour end to his relationship with the club.

An explosive interview with Piers Morgan saw Old Trafford chiefs immediately seek legal action and it was decided that the best course of action was to rip up his contract after Ronaldo made it clear that he was at odds with Erik ten Hag and the Glazers.

As well as playing alongside Aboubakar, Ronaldo could also find himself sharing a dressing room with former Arsenal star David Ospina and ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo while former Marseille, Lyon and AS Roma boss Rudi Garcia is in charge.
