Feminist groups intend to disrupt Cristiano Ronaldo’s eagerly-awaited return to Manchester United today.
Sportsmail understands that a protest is planned, with organisers hoping to shift attention towards an unresolved legal case involving the 36-year-old in the United States.
American woman Kathryn Mayorga alleged that Ronaldo raped her in a Las Vegas hotel in June 2009, the same month Real Madrid paid a then-world record £80million to sign him from United.

Ronaldo, set to be named in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad against Newcastle United today, has strenuously denied the claims, branding them ‘fake news’.
Mayorga filed a complaint with the Las Vegas police the day after meeting Ronaldo 12 years ago. The Portugal star agreed a £270,000 out-of-court settlement — including the insertion of a non-disclosure agreement — a year later.
A criminal investigation ended in 2019, with police department announcing that he would not face charges as the allegation could not be ‘proven beyond reasonable doubt’. Mayorga subsequently brought a civil case worth a reported £56million — effectively the player’s salary over two years — and that is ongoing.

Mayorga stated that she was ‘mentally incapacitated’ when signing the non-disclosure agreement. Ronaldo’s lawyers accepted that the settlement exists but insisted it was ‘by no means a confession of guilt’.
United made Ronaldo the best paid player in Premier League history when they signed him from Juventus last month.
