Ronaldo gestures at team-mates and fans as Al-Nassr’s season takes another turn

Cristiano Ronaldo looked like a conductor as he frantically waved his arms at his team-mates and Al-Nassr's fans during his side's Saudi Pro League defeat to Al-Taawoun on Friday.

The Portugal superstar was desperately trying to gee everyone up after Al-Nassr went behind on 20 minutes, especially after losing their opening day clash with Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq side last week.

As his crestfallen team-mates trudged back to the centre circle, Ronaldo picked the ball up and jogged back to the half-way line before urging his colleagues to join him – and a few minutes later he was seen trying to fire up the crowd by calling for them to make more noise.

Fans on social media branded the 38-year-old a "true leader", with some even accusing Al-Nassr's stars of holding Ronaldo back.

"Cristiano Ronaldo motivating team post goal conceded. A true leader," one person tweeted.

"Ronaldo doing everything he can to get a tune out of this terrible Al-Nassr team. They'd be nothing without him and are going to deny him another league title," another fan fumed.

Others said Ronaldo's frantic gesturing was a sign of his desperation, particularly narrowly missing out on the Saudi Pro League title last season.

"Ronaldo looking stressed. Dude needs to stop taking Saudi so seriously," one person wrote, while a second added: "Ronaldo so desperate not to lose haha you love to see it."

Things went from bad to worse late in the second half when Al-Taawoun added a second in injury time to seal a 2-0 win, leaving Al-Nassr 15th in the Saudi Pro League, with goal difference the only thing separating them from the relegation zone.

Ronaldo has scored 20 goals in 25 games since joining Al-Nassr in December last year, and helped fire the club to Arab Club Champions Club glory last week, bagging two goals in the final against Al-Hilal.
