Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson will back his controversial comments against Manchester United after his polarising interview because the legendary Scot is “always on his side”. The Portuguese superstar has launched an extraordinary attack on the club, head coach Erik ten Hag, their owners the Glazer family and several of his former team-mates in a widely-publicised rant as he looks set to leave the club in acrimonious circumstances.
The 37-year-old has grown frustrated with his situation at Old Trafford after first claiming that senior figures at the club have attempted to force him out of the club. The veteran forward also claimed the club did not believe him when he was forced to miss pre-season due to his child falling ill.
Ronaldo’s revelations about the state of the club have divided United’s fanbase, although there is little doubt that the striker will be leaving the club in January when the World Cup is over. Reports suggest United are considering legal action against Ronaldo and could terminate his £500,000-a-week contract over his public outburst.
Despite the poor timing of his comments and attempt to disclose the club’s faults on a global stage, Ronaldo believes his former boss Ferguson would support him because he “knows” about the situation the club currently find itself in and insisted he “always” can rely on the 81-year-old’s backing.
In the latest part released from his interview with Piers Morgan on his Talk TV show Uncensored, Ronaldo said: “I don’t speak with him [since] like one month ago, but he’s always on my side. He always understands me.”
Ferguson first brought Ronaldo to the club in the summer of 2003, paying £12.24million to sign him from Sporting Lisbon when he was only 18. After a slow start to life in the Premier League, Ronaldo became a key figure in the United side that dominated English football between 2007 and 2009, winning the Premier League three years in a row and the Champions League in 2007-08.
Ronaldo left behind the Red Devils in 2009 when he joined Real Madrid for a then-world record £80m fee, which was widely regarded as the beginning of the end for United’s reign over the Premier League. Since Ferguson’s retirement after winning the league in 2012-13, the club have failed to add to their 13 Premier League titles and have gone five years without winning a trophy.

United struggled domestically last season despite Ronaldo’s contribution of 24 goals in all competitions and he has consistently hit out at the club’s owners, the Glazer family, for failing to turn things around, mentioning that Ferguson agrees that the club are far from where they should be.
“He knows that, he knows better than nobody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be,” he added. “He knows. Everyone knows. The people who don’t see that is because they don’t want to see; they are blamed.
“The fans, they are always the answer, and the passion for the game. Manchester belongs to the fans, but they should know the truth. The infrastructure, they are not good. They should change.”
