Cristiano Ronaldo regularly clashes with Erik ten Hag in training and blatantly ignores another Manchester United coach, according to reports. The Portugal international made the headlines on Wednesday night when he stormed down the tunnel in the closing stages of his side’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham. Now, he faces being frozen out – with the 37-year-old set to pay the price for his show of defiance.
Manchester United were outstanding against Tottenham, producing their best performance of the Ten Hag era with Fred and Bruno Fernandes on target in a 2-0 win.
But Ronaldo stole the show in the dying stages for all the wrong reasons, with the 37-year-old making his way down the tunnel with four minutes left to play.
In the time since, it’s emerged Ronaldo refused to come on after Ten Hag tried to introduce him in the closing stages. He’ll now train with the reserves, having been banished from the first team.
United are behind their manager, rather than their struggling superstar, and Ronaldo has admitted ‘sometimes the heat of the moment gets to us’ in the time since.
Now, though, more details are coming to light.
Man Utd transfers: Plans for next three signings are damning on Solskjaer
The Daily Mail say Ronaldo and Ten Hag have regularly had issues in training, with the former Juventus and Real Madrid star unhappy with his manager’s methods.
The Portugal international reportedly thinks United should play a different way, one that suits his strengths.
And it’s said that, such is his disdain for Ten Hag, he blatantly ignores the instructions of an unnamed coach behind the scenes.
United players are said to be ‘aware’ of Ronaldo and Ten Hag clashing on a ‘daily basis’, though it isn’t impacting the spirit in the dressing room.
It’ll be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming weeks ahead, with the Portugal international set to miss Saturday night’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ten Hag reportedly still sees Ronaldo as a valuable member of the squad.
And there’s no desire from the former Ajax boss to let his No 7 go, despite the issues that are bubbling away in private.
Yet United could soon have a decision to make if the situation fails to improve, with Ronaldo clearly no longer the same player he used to be.
He’s netted just once in open play this season – in a 2-1 win over Everton earlier in the month – with his other goal coming from the penalty spot against Sheriff.
Back in the summer, Ronaldo wanted to leave United behind following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Yet despite links to the likes of Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, the Red Devils refused to let him go.
Ronaldo is currently behind Marcus Rashford in Ten Hag’s pecking order, with the England international starting to rediscover his mojo following last term’s struggles.
And there’s a sense his struggle for game time will only get worse when Anthony Martial returns from injury.
In his statement, Ronaldo appeared to recognise he got lost in the moment against Tottenham but stopped short of an apology.
And former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has branded the veteran ‘pathetic’ for failing to truly recognise he was in the wrong.

“Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic,” he said on talkSPORT.
“At the end of the day, be a man and own up to your mistakes. Say ‘hands up, I messed up here and I sincerely apologise to firstly my teammates, my manager, the club and the fans’.
“That statement there, he’s not taking accountability there and there’s no apology.
“It’s about him and how ‘I’ve done this and done that’. It’s a load of nonsense. It’s just PR for him and not what he should be doing.
“It’s pathetic.”
