Romelu Lukaku insists he is at “home” at Inter Milan – after a Manchester United supporter asked him on Twitter when he would be ‘coming home’ to Old Trafford. The Belgian has restored his reputation as one of Europe’s best strikers while in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has 23 goals and five assists in 30 games this term after notching one of each in the derby victory over AC Milan at the weekend.

Antonio Conte’s Inter are now four points clear of their rivals at the top of the Serie A table and have lost just one of their last 19 league games.

Since leaving Manchester United for Inter, Lukaku has managed 68 direct goal contributions in just 81 matches.

That is up dramatically from 55 in 96 matches for United, whom he joined from Everton for £75million in the summer of 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

He lasted just two seasons however after struggling to establish himself under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford after Mourinho was sacked in December 2018.

Lukaku left the following summer to join Italian giants Inter in a club-record deal which is thought to have seen United recoup the money they spent on the Belgium international.

But Lukaku gave a glowing review of United boss Solskjaer although he didn’t feature too much under the Norwegian coach.

In a Twitter Q&A, Lukaku was asked: “Thoughts on Ole’s work as a manager? Did you have a good relationship with him before you left?”

And he replied: “He is doing great. You guys have to know i love him as a manager and as a person and i wish him nothing but the best.”

But Lukaku also looks to have ruled out a return to United after he was asked by one Red Devils fan, “When are you coming home?”

The striker’s short reply was: “I am home right now” with the emoji of a man shrugging his shoulders.

Manchester City have also been linked with Lukaku, who also played for Chelsea and West Brom in the Premier League.

But he is settled in Italy and asked by another fan how he is enjoying life in the country, he said: “I love it.”

Lukaku also gave his verdict on former United team-mate Marcus Rashford, insisting he is impressed by the England forward’s ongoing development.

He wrote of Rashford: “He is improving all the time! I love to see him play. One of the most talented [I’ve] played with for sure.”

While Lukaku also declared he has no ill feelings for Chelsea, for whom he only made 10 Premier League appearances before joining Everton.

He spent a season on loan at Goodison Park before enjoying three permanent years on Merseyside and scored 68 times in 141 top-flight games overall.

Asked about Chelsea, Lukaku explained: “Nothing but love. They gave me an opportunity to come to the @premierleague as a kid.

“You can’t have everything in life and I’m cool with that. I’m glad that experience got me to where i am today.”

And after Everton beat Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 1999 last Saturday, Lukaku confirmed that he watched it as he posted: “Yes I did! So happy for everyone at @Everton.”

Asked by another Toffees fan what colour Merseyside is, the striker said simply: “Blue.”

Lukaku will hope to continue his fine form when leaders Inter host 11th-placed Genoa at San Siro in Serie A on Sunday.
