Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea medical taking place Sunday as Inter Milan deal agreed
Romelu Lukaku is set to undergo a medical on Sunday to see if his move from Inter Milan to Chelsea can be completed – seven seasons after he left the club without scoring a goal.
The former Everton and Manchester United forward said it had been a lifelong dream to move to Stamford Bridge after his 2011 switch – but it didn't go to plan as he left permanently in 2014.
After three seasons as Goodison he scored 42 goals across 96 outings at United before catching the eye of Inter, who he fired to Serie A glory last season while scoring 30 times in all competitions.
Following financial worries which pushed Antonio Conte to the exit door at the San Siro, the 28-year-old is ready to fill a void left by Olivier Giroud and give his former club a consistent goal threat.
The Athletic have now reported that Lukaku will undergo a medical on Sunday ahead of a £97.5m move.
They add that Chelsea have agreed a club record move for the striker, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at the club with a contract worth around £195,000-a-week after tax.
That is set to make him the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea determined to get the finer details agreed by Sunday so he can feature in their league opener next weekend.
United could yet pocket around £3million for clauses in the deal that took him to Italy, with Lukaku said to be willing to join his former club despite being happy on the continent.

"I dreamed to play here since I was 10 years old. It was just what I was searching for," Lukaku said of his dream move following his £20m switch from Anderlecht in 2011.
"I used to watch Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scoring goals and remember one against Manchester United, the volley at Old Trafford, and I decided I wanted to support this team.
"It's amazing to arrive here in a big club with big ambition. It was just what I was searching for."
Thomas Tuchel said this week when asked about Lukaku: "I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad.
"He is a fantastic player but a player from Inter and with all due respect I will not talk about him.
"Not everybody but I can imagine a lot of players want to come and join [Chelsea] but we don’t comment on that!"
